Contribution to the scientific advancement

During last 17 years involved in developing eco-friendly pest management methods and IPM modules in cotton, pulses, oilseeds and rose. Identified and registered six leafhopper resistant castor genotypes with Plant Germplasm Registration Committee, NBPGR, New Delhi. Associated with the release of four castor cultivars resistant or moderately resistant to leafhopper. Developed in vitro and in vivo methods for screening of leafhopper and whitefly resistance in castor and bruchid resistance in mungbean and urdbean. Identified synthetic kairomones for attracting moths of major lepidopteran pests of castor and developed pheromone trap catches based action threshold for Spodoptera litura in castor. Developed and demonstrated IPM modules in cotton, chickpea, pigeonpea, mungbean, urdbean and castor and the technologies have been recommended to the farmers. Developed “Push-Pull Strategy” for the management of Helicoverpa armigera in cotton. Developed newer insecticides based pest management technologies for management of insect pests in cotton, mungbean, urdbean and castor. Developed management methods against storage insect pests in stored seeds of pulses and sesame. Implemented Farmers participatory area wide IPM in cotton (covering an area of 81 ha in Avinashi Taluk of Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu) and chickpea (covering an area of 60 ha in Jalaun district of Bundelkhand region, Uttar Pradesh).
